BiTS Morphologists Visit the Paleontological Research Institution

From February 21st to 24th, 2011, BiTS project members Jan Johan ter Poorten and André Sartori were guests of fellow-BiTS member Paula Mikkelsen at the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) in Ithaca, New York. This fossil collection is rich in Cenozoic mollusks, including type specimens of many species of cardiid and venerid bivalves needed for our morphological analysis. André and Paula also took the opportunity to discuss producing additional bivalve species pages for the Encyclopedia of Life.

Just before the PRI visit, Jan Johan was a guest in the rich fossil and Recent mollusk collections at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC, taking over 300 photographs of cardiids for the BiTS project.
